I started my project of "sculpting" sand after looking at Bareina, a village in the middle of the Mauritanian desert. What struck me in this place is the contrast between the endless areas of sand and the very precisely drawn walls separating properties.
I wandered how to appropriate this infinite, unpersonnal and constantly transforming landscape.
Binding sand with latex allowed me to stop its constant flow and transformation. The pendulum's swing is drawing a space and time wich are familiar to the user. The patterns resulting from this installation are carpets of sand which capture the memory of this happening.
